When you come to Highlands, you go through intake. This is where you get your picture taken, get searched, take showers and give information about yourself. Your picture is taken for identification purposes. When you get searched, it's a pretty thorough one (if you know what I mean). Your showers are for hygiene. That way, no one brings any lice or any other parasites into the facility. After intake and showers, we are given our clothes which consist of: an orange jumpsuit, socks, white underwear, white T-shirt and a sweatshirt. The staff does our laundry each day. We don't get shoes, we wear sandals. |
